Ready? What is Catalina Island from your point of view.
It is one of the great locations in Southern California. It is the only island off the coast that welcomes tourist daily.
The reasons you'd spend a day on Catalina Island are numerous. First and foremost, Catalina Island offers a large selection of fascinating tours. When I have friends going to the island I always tell them to take the Scenic City Tour. This is the tour that gives you a quick idea on the layout of the City of Avalon. While your on this tour you can look around the town for the sights and locations that you would like to visit.
Catalina is the island that asks you “How busy do you want to be”. You can lay on the beach all day and just enjoy our sun or be so active that you'll take a nap on the cruise home. No matter what you do, you'll find that everything on Catalina Island contributes to a relaxed mind and body.
After the tours and there are many, it’s time to just take a casual stroll in and out of the shops and stores along Crescent Ave (called Front St. by the locals).
This is where you can find some of the specialty food stores. Ice cream, candy, soda, baked goods and other refreshing beverages await your sampling.
When your body tells you it’s time for lunch, your choices are right there. Great pizza, outstanding seafood, steak and lobster, fast food, breakfast and terrific specialty restaurants. There are a few Catalina restaurants that are right on the shore line. Others are just across the street from the bay.
Want to be more active? How about a round of golf on the island. Maybe horse back ridding will get you going. Haven't you always wanted to Para-sale. It can happen on Catalina Island. Since Catalina is an island, we can't forget about the water. On Catalina Island there are places to rent snorkeling equipment. Most of the time the waters around Catalina are very clear and blue and you feel like you are floating on air.
Want the ultimate experience in the waters of Catalina Island. Snorkeling is wide open at Avalon. You can bring your own gear or rent it at the island. Why would you do this? To go diving in the only underwater state park in California. Visabilty is up to 60’ in the summer and 90’ in the winter.
